BOOK CONDITION: Fine; a tight, clean copy with solid binding a Near Fine dust jacket showing light edge wear, small 1/2 inch closed tear upper corner of front panel and a smaller closed tear to lower right margin of front panel, small loss to lower left margin of rear panel. Overall a very nice, clean copy in a collectible dust jacket (presents nicely in a new, clear, brodart protector).

A book that looks back to Kertész's Distortions and forward to the psychedelia of the late 60s. As Vince Aletti writes in The Book of 101 Books, Brandt "conjure[d] a dream world of skewed perspectives in which his nude female subjects appeared to float unanchored or loom like giants." In The Photobook: A History, Vol. I., Parr and Badger assert that Brandt "rewrote the language of nude photography in not one, but several quarters...[they are] as interesting for their psychological undertones as for the wealth of unexpected forms he conjured...Brandt pictured a world of faded grandeur, of Edwardian bourgeois homes metamorphosing into 1940s bedsit land--cavernous refuges for European émigrés or bohemian nonconformists."
