Benjo [Toilet] [RARE GERIBARA 5 1971 1ST LIMITED EDITION OF 1000 COPIES - NEAR FINE]

Tokyo, Fukushu-Shudan / Geribara 5, 1971, 1971. First Edition. Paperback. Tokyo: Fukushu-Shudan Geribara-5, 1971. Softcover in pictorial wrappers. First Edition, First Printing. Large 8vo. 104 pages filled with full-bleed black and white plates. Limited edition of only 1000 copies. The first of three books published by the infamous Geribara 5, a group of radical publishers that followed in the wake of Provoke. Benjo is a series of photographs taken in bathrooms. Parr and Badger write "Benjo (Toilet), is one of those photobooks that startles simply by virtue of its subject-matter. It may be regarded as either a brilliant post-Duchampian exercise in neo-Dada camp, or a schoolboy scatological joke or both." BOOK CONDITON: Near Fine; a solid, tight, internally clean, well-bound copy showing light rubbing and soiling to wrappers, small abrasion to lower margin of front wrapper, and extreme upper corner of first 5 pages with hints of light wear. Overall a solid, clean, collectible copy of this fragile and scarce publication. Near fine. Item #3767
